From sundowners on your private patio – with duiker antelope, ostrich and tortoises feeding just metres away from you – stargazing, bird or game watching, Impangele will offers much to entertain you, restore you and put you in touch with the very essence of the earth. 

Simply chat to us on arrival (or during your stay) and we’ll make all the necessary arrangements for you to explore, be pampered or simply indulge. Most activities need to be booked in advance, so it’s best let us know as soon as possible what you would like to do.

Immerse yourself in roots and culture 
The Cradle of Humankind is a World Heritage Site first named by UNESCO in 1999. The site is home to caves where the 3 miillion year-old Australopithecus africanus fossil (the famous Mrs Ples) was discovered in 1947. Excavation still continues and the area offers a rich and fascinating glimpse into history and legend. Take a step back in time and visit: 

  • the Maropeng Centre for a journey through the evolution of life;
  • the Stekfontein Caves where Mrs Ples and Little Foot were found;
  • hominid fossil sites together with an anthropologist for a mind-blowing look at the past;
  • the Lesedi Cultural Village for an enriching cultural experience of dance, hand-crafted goods and tasty African fare;
  • the Wonder Caves;
  • the Old Kromdraai Gold Mine where you can experience the life of a miner a century ago

Get in touch with nature
Whether you want to sit back and relax at a watering hole, or get a little more active, you’ll find yourself not just in the heart of nature but in a place where man and animal peacefully co-exist. Take pleasure in any of the following:

  • horse-back as you ride through the area;
  • a bird watching adventure with a professional birder;
  • a magical stargazing evening at the Wonder Caves Observatory;
  • a game drive, where you could come face to face with hippo, a number of antelope species, jackal, zebra, hyena, wildebeest, ostriches and tortoises (including one called ‘Boogie’ who moves his foot whenever he hears music!);
  • a visit to the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve where you’ll see live snake displays and lion, cheetah and wild dogs being fed.
